The book series, written by Robyn Carr, served as the basis for the TV show, but here's the thing: only the first book centers around the show's main characters, Mel and Jack, meaning there are plenty of stories that haven't made it into the on-screen adaptation. ![]() Bonus: they have stories that go well beyond the Mel and Jack we have come to know and love. Season 5 of Virgin River may just be a few weeks away (it's premiering on September 7, in case you didn't know) but that seems like an especially long time to wait to get your small town charm fix once you learn there are 21 (!!) "Virgin River" books out there just waiting to be read.
